The main concern was to avoid using unnecessary declarations and keep the css
simple and clean.

You must remove the spaces from the alt attribute values. Those attributes must be completely empty for the image to be recognized as decorative. As soon as a space is in there, the value is truthy (it's no longer empty) and the image will be announced to assistive tech users.
