Im proud that my sizing is somewhat mostly accurate

i struggled to vertically align the text to the middle of the div-elements i had created.

really good. You can use the transition on the hover to smooth the change of colors, so it won't change color so suddenly:
transition: 0.3s ease-in; color: white

Your solution is very similar, but try to be more careful with the rem properties, because you can make the items too big. but it's very good
