Stats preview card component solution

Any tips or advice for when it comes to dealing with the HTML 'picture' tag. Seems difficult to maintain the image at a decent size in relation to the window size. Either it forces the 'div' to take up the full screen or it acts like there is no element within the dom. I've set both 'sources to 100% for both 'width' and 'height' and then used the parent 'div' to manage the size for different window sizes but is there a simpler way?
