Solution retrospective

I attempted to use a vanilla JavaScript XMLHttpRequest to request the IP data from IPIFY -- I couldn't get it working, so I altered the jQuery function they provided. I would greatly appreciate if someone could explain where I was going wrong (main.js lines 124 - 151)
