Solution retrospective
The timer had a ton of moving parts and was a huge challenge to get working but it felt great to figure out. Apparently it doesn't work on Safari mobile for at least one person who's tried it and I'm not sure why that is. I think my non-Tailwind CSS can use a huge cleanup. I've let Tailwind do a lot of heavy lifting for me lately and I've gotten lax on maintaining my own stylesheets when necessary.
