Design comparison
Solution retrospective
I'm glad I found it quite simple to style the individual HTML components.
What challenges did you encounter, and how did you overcome them?I found it a quite taxing when I attempted centering the main component. I thought I could resolve it using flexbox but I came to realize that I didn't remember the flexbox's related property value pair that would complete the task. I eventually decided to use the "transform: translate(x, y)" property value pair to effectively center the component.
What specific areas of your project would you like help with?I would like help with effective scripts to achieve page responsiveness for smaller screens.

Hi John, here is some feedback I hope you find clear and helpful.
HTML:
-
Every webpage needs a
<main>
that wraps all of the content, except for<header>
andfooter>
. This is vital for accessibility, as it helps screen readers identify a page's "main" section. -
The alt text must also say where it leads(frontendmentor website).
-
"Improve your" is a heading, so change it to a
<h1>
.
CSS:
-
Including a CSS Reset at the top is good practice.
-
Add around
1rem
ofpadding
on thebody
, so the card doesn't touch the edges on small screens. -
Remove the positioning and transform properties.
-
To center the card horizontally and vertically, use Flexbox on the body:
display: flex; flex-direction: column; justify-content: center; align-items: center; min-height: 100svh; gap: 2rem;
You can learn more about centering in this article.
-
Remove all widths in
px
. -
Add a
max-width
of around20rem
on the card, to prevent it from getting too wide on larger screens. -
font-size
must never be in px. This is a big accessibility issue, as it prevents the font size from scaling with the user's default setting in the browser. Use rem instead. -
Paragraphs have a default value of
font-weight: 400
, so there is no need to declare it. -
Put
align-items: center
on the card, and removealign-self: center
from the image and the text - this is much more efficient! -
On the image, add
display: block
andmax-width: 100%
- the max-width prevents it from overflowing its container. -
To create the space between the image and the edge of the card, set
padding
on all 4 sides of the card. -
As the design doesn't change, there is no need for any media queries. When you do need them, they should be in rem, not px. Also, it is common practice to do mobile styles first and use media queries for larger screens.
