Solution retrospective
The area which I am unsure is the use of plain CSS. I don't know about the conventional way of solving the styling issues while using bootstrap. I don't know about the Bootstrap utilities API. The navbar off-canvas is working fine in my local machine but not on the page hosted by GitHub
