Interactive rating component solution

Only recently started learning javascript, this is the first challenge involving it. After many hours trying to make the buttons work (while one was selected the others would be idle) i've found a Stackoverflow question with a similar problem to mine and managed to implement the solution that was given. If there is a better way to make the buttons work i would be thankful to know. In terms of CSS had some trouble with the modal being right on top of the rating card but managed to make it work.
