This is my first project involving javascript and i am new to javascript. Can anyone see my javascript file and tell me the way i achieved the required functionality is okay? or is there a easy and better way to do that?

The transition that you added to change the background to a lighter grey on hover for the rating numbers is a nice touch. It gives the webpage a smoother feel. However, I did notice that, while it still recognises which number I clicked on, the numbers themselves don't indicate that I've clicked on them by turning orange as shown in the design images.
