FAQ Accordion - Issues with images and backgrounds

Any feedback on how to go about positioning the images and backgrounds here would be really appreciated. I have really struggled and not gone about it the right way - that's my conclusion anyway.

I've used position relative and added the images as pseudo elements, but I think this is a misstep. Any advice on how to approach the issue, or links to resources where I can learn about this would be really appreciated as I need to work on this area.

EDIT: I updated my solution removing the images as pseudo elements. I am have still not got the background images placed nicely on the desktop view. I think that I would need to add the image itself as a background to achieve this.
