Solution retrospective
I skipped some of the customization of the font selector dropdown for now due to accessibility concerns and a lack of time. From what I can tell, further modifications to the box that holds the font options would require completely rebuilding the selector. I'd be curious if anyone has any helpful pointers about how to go about it for later on.
