I think your solition includes semantic HTML as I can see the tags used in your index. The layout looks good and clear in a smaller screen size although I can't see the hover effect for the links. I think all in all it looks similar to the suggested solution. Perhaps the text from the bio could be centered in order to look more similar to it, but I don't see major changes are needed.
