    1. How can I position background image better so that it doesn't move/crop that bad when height or width of screen changes?

    Oi Luis, quando fiz eu coloquei display 0.6 em uma das divs e em outra 0.4. Não sei se respondi direito tua pergunta vou te passar o exemplo:

    .flex > div:first-child{ flex:0.6; margin-right:20px }

    .flex > div:last-child{ flex: 0.4; margin-left:20px }
